Hot fluids in pipelines produce high stresses, and temperatures at the tube-wall. The compensation bows (see Fig. 1) allow thermal expansions and reduce tensions in the piping as the comparison shows in our example. In Figure 2, the stresses in a tube are calculated with and without compensation-bow. Steam flows in the arrow direction through the tubes. The compensation bow balances the temperature- induced changes in length of the tube, whereby the stresses are smaller than in the case without compensation bow. In Figure 3 the stress distributions in the two tube designsare compared.
